Mechanical Seal on water pump

Postby winging » Sat Jun 06, 2015 4:14 pm

I have the engine out, '80 CX500, and am trying to replace the mechanical seal, only all 3 seals I have bought are too large in diameter to fit in the case. The bore for the seal is 28mm while the new seals are 28.64mm. That is a half a mm too much for a press fit. Did Honda change the seal?? The old seal case is too far gone to reuse.

Anyone have any in-site to what is going on? I saw a Yamaha pt number listed in another thread, will it fit correctly?

You don't need to replace the full seal.Click here,

You just have to be careful removing the inner seal.
Also check this forum as well as there's people who have used my system for years.

The metal case of the seal is not usable. it got beat up removing it. I never thought I would have a problem getting a new one.
