Ever heard this?

Postby jackod » Sat Apr 04, 2015 2:35 pm

Gman,

We put our engine back in yesterday. It sat for a week or two after we did quad bypass. We heard this noise twice and it stalled. We checked all the fluids again and when we started it again, no noise.

We changed to sportster mufflers and need to get that straightened out. Some exhaust leaks and the muffler owner drilled out the plugs. It doesn't idle now but it was running when we bought it.

We do post on the CX/GL forum too but thought we would ask you as well, if you don't mind.

Thanks

I'm not sure of what I'm listening for?
I do know that the Starter clutches on the 650s take a lot more hammer than the 500s.Check the Aussie site as well as there are mods and info on there,

Thanks I will. That noise came right after we first started the engine after putting it back in from a quad bypass. We thought something may have broken.

Also because of their bigger displacement the Starter motors take more hammer but they are interchangeable with any CX/GL500.Well worth checking my Start motor threads and servicing them and doing the,"Ground-Mod".
There is also a timing mod for the 650s as there can be an issue with the timing being a little too advanced on start-up.Again there are threads on this. Some 650 owners use the Kill-switch and spin the engine and then turn the kill switch off. This lets the engine gain momentum before firing.

We did the starter earth mod and will be starting the motor with the kill switch off. I will look into the timing mod threads. Thanks.
