Is it possible to drop the bowls and adjust the floats while carbs are in the chassis?
Just a curiosity as I can't seem to see much since my fat head can't get anywhere near the underside of carbs/bowls.

It's a tight fit at time on a cx500 but very do able. The key is once you get the screws out replace the inside one with an allen head screw or at least a new phillips screw that doesn't have a shredded head.

After you get the bowl off, it is VERY important that you have a very light touch when you hold the float up to the needle to see where it seats at. It's very hard to do accurately! On the cx standard and deluxe with the black floats, they almost have to be adjusted when the carbs are upside down, to get them to rest on the secondary spring inside the needle, and they must be loose and free of corrosion. Not to mention the fact that you can have one side of the 2 floats higher that the other if the PO has messed them up. You won't see that with the carbs installed very easily. If you followed the manual settings the first time around, and you still have a problem, you might just need to take them off and be matriculates with them. Don't scrimp on any steps. These carbs are the heart of how these bikes perform in the end. Done right, Heaven. Done wrong, hell.

Ok, loud and clear fellas......sounds like maybe best left to bench work. I'm waiting for used carbs I bought from user on other forum and kits from local shop. I plan to eyeball the seats from the new kits and will follow your carb guide to clean them up.
Oh, one other thing, have you tried 'purple power' for carb or general cleaning? It ROCKS on steel (even paint and rust), but since it is an alkaline type cleaner, I'm not so keen on the thought of using it on the carbs.
Have you used strong alkaline cleaners for carbs? What is CLR - Acid or Alkaline?
