Carb Balancing

Correctly servicing the Carburettors on these bikes is paramount to good running and fuel economy so any work done will pay back in better mileage :)

Carb Balancing

Some people wrongly claim that they have balanced their carbs at the revs they normally use e.g 5,000/6,000 revs.I consulted the maker of my Carbtune2 John/Sean Morgan who is World renowned.

He replied and clearly stated that ALL motorcycles carburettors should be balanced at the manufacturers recommended settings which unless otherwise specified is Idle speed +/- 10%. Vacuum operated carb balancers cannot handle the excessive vacuum at higher revs and are therefore useless over around 1400 rpm. I have a buddy who drag races Gixxers(GSXRs).He says the same.His bikes now use fuel injection but when he had normally aspirated carbs he used an electronic balancer and now uses a Laptop and software.He also says that setting to a single rev band for a street bike will eventually harm the engine by causing an unbalanced crank and possibly micro fissures in the cylinder walls over a long period.

My tip of balancing the carbs is to ever so slightly out so that when you tighten the lock-nut it brings them level.Yes it can be frustrating but it's worth it and right.
