Homemade Gaskets(How to)

The small capital outlay to make these will pay you back in money saved and lack of frustration.

Gasket paper=Approx 0.8mm(3/64")

Yellow pages(Engineering Supplies) or Ebay

Cheap set of Leather punches(Metric or Imperial) off ebay.

Melted down big fishing weight as a,"Last" to punch into.

Boot Black polish stick or similar to mark parts so you can press the part onto the paper to make the template. For example.
Clean the surface of the rear engine cover so it's dry and free of all debris/grease/oil etc.Light rub with Scotchbrite or 500 wet and dry to make a good surface for re-fit.Then wipe with some tissue.
Paint plenty of Liquid boot black onto the surface and quickly press the cover onto the paper and press down for say 10 seconds.

Then punch out holes areas with the punches into something soft like the lead I use or a bit of soft wood.

I use a small pair of curved blade scissors(Toe nail scissors<grin>) to cut out the rest.

TIP:Keep the centre piece of paper as it can be used for smaller gaskets like the Tacho drive.

Nice info, i got the same gasket paper. if you can find printable gasket templates you can make gaskets that way. The gasket paper i have i cut to the size of an 8.5x11" sheet of paper, legal size works too 8.5x14" and i put it in my printer (inkjet) im pretty sure it will work for a laser printer. You may have to adjust the printer for the new thickness of the gasket paper. I printed the templates onto the gasket paper and cut them out, it makes perfect gaskets everytime.

Gasket paper=Approx 0.8mm or 3/16" imperial thickness.

Shep I'm no genius when it comes to different countries and size conversion but I was doing the math in my head and the numbers don't add up. Then I hit google and got this.
http://www.interlloy.com.au/ref_tables/imperial_metric.html

What I'm looking at is .79mm or 1/32
and 4.763 mm or 3/16"

So which size is it. I know or at least thought I knew that the rear gasket was thicker.

You are right. It is closer to 3/64".I get 0.8mm gasket paper and it's perfect for all of the paper gaskets including the rear case.It compacts a little once torqued down unlike the stock gaskets so even 1.00mm would most likely be ok but I prefer to stick to what I know works.

What material that you used?
My brother suggest me to use the 1.2312 steel sheet plate. But I think that is not good for me
