The only real fault with the GLs,and it's not really a fault,is the cost of a replacement Mono-shock.They can run to $350+ US.They can be repaired I think so get to know some one with some engineering gear/home mechanic-engineer.
Wemoto do them,
http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/honda/gl_50 ... monoshock/http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/honda/gl_50 ... c02/82-85/They are a great supplier to the World like David Silvers.Worth a Bookmark and will answer questions via email or phone:)
Tip:Google search on modifying the Mono shock to fit a grease nipple.
PS
Engine bars saved my leg when I slid one of my CX!
They form a barrier between the machine and the road when laid down.
Tip2:I used an angle grinder to cut slots where the holes are so they go on and off easy e.g slide into position for the bolts. This has NOT weakened them in use as above they still did their job
